We had been told to save the date of the retreat as far back as December last year,so we had a lot of time to get prepared for it,even at that time i was not sure if i would be able to make it for the retreat but God was working and i was there.
The venue was a resort centre called FORTEROCCA ,It is located in a small Italian community ,BOBBIO PELLICE- it is a border community separated from France by The ALPS mountain range and with a population of about 600,we were told that they had about 23 families living in the area.
We drove all the way from Milano to Torino which is the largest city close to Pellice and then to Bobbio Pellice ,it was a two and half hours drive. As we entered Torino, the mountain range came into view,I would not say i was speechless, better to say i was in awe at the wonder of God’s creation and just kept exclaiming, the mountains especially those with the snow peaks looked so beautiful from afar and ethereal, just like a mirage as if they would disappear the next minute,i wondered how it would be when we finally got to Pellice and were in close proximity to the mountains.
I remember the speaker at the conference saying that looking at the mountains and how huge they were just told her how great our God is and you get to understand the greatness of God for He spoke these things just by the word.In my attempt at giving God a size the verse which says ‘Heaven is God’s Abode and the earth is His footstool’ came to mind and i just wondered how great He is if those mountains are His footstool. The Alps are known to be above 4,300 meters in some areas,at Pellice we went hiking and we got to about 1015 meters, and i could only sing ‘HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD’.
There was preaching of the Word, group discussion, games, hiking, workshops and two Ghanian ladies and myself got them dancing to Igwe(will post the video if i can get my hands on it) all in all it was a refreshing time in God’s presence with women from all over the world'.
Below are pictures of the mountain and my next post will be about the hiking which was actually to see how persecuted Christians lived in that region.
